A Study on Serum Sodium and Potassium Levels in Newly Diagnosed Primary Hypertension
نویسندگان
چکیده
Primary hypertension comprises of more than 90% of hypertension. Many studies have shown that a positive correlation between serum sodium and blood pressure and a negative correlation between blood pressure and serum potassium. The objective is to study the serum levels of sodium and potassium and correlate them with blood pressure. The study was conducted in medical wards at Mamata general hospital during October 2012 – October 2013 and sample of 100 (50 cases +50 controls) patients with primary hypertension and age more than 20years were included and investigations like serum electrolytes, fasting blood sugars were sent. Serum sodium was higher and serum potassium was lower in hypertensive group respectively than in the control group and mean and standard deviation were 146.9+4.58 and 3.77+ 0.36 respectively in hypertensive group. Serum sodium was significantly more among hypertensive group and correlated positively with blood pressure unlike serum potassium which was lower and correlated negatively with blood pressure.

CHANGES IN BLOOD LEVELS OF TRACE ELEMENTS AND ELECTROLYTES IN HYP ERTENSIVE PATIENTS
The involvement of elements in the pathological process of primary hypertension has been established. The serum levels of copper, iron, zinc, sodium, potassium and calcium were studied by atomic absorption spectrophotometery and flame photometry in hypertensive and normal subjects. Serum copper and zinc levels were increased in hypertensive patients (25.5% and 14.7% respectively) as compar...

Increased urinary albumin excretion (UAE) is an early indicator of glomerular damage and of increased cardiovascular risk. Systemic endothelial dysfunction, for which albuminuria is presumed to be a sensitive biomarker, likely underlies, at least in part, these combined cardiorenal effects.1 A large body of experimental data implicates the independent roles of aldosterone and high dietary salt ...

Backgrounds and Aims: Stroke incidence rate has increased during the past 2 decades. The question of whether calcium, chloride, potassium, sodium levels are associated with stroke has remained controversial. The present study aimed to evaluate the serum levels of potassium, sodium, calcium, and chloride within stroke patients. Materials and Methods: The study participants consisted of 5...

Objective: To investigate possible immunological humoral correlates in newly diagnosed adult-onset generalized tonic-clonic epilepsy among Iranian patients before and after sodium valproate treatment. Patients and Methods: 72 adult patients with newly diagnosed idiopathic generalized tonic-clonic epilepsy were recruited. Serum antinuclear antibodies (ANA), anti-cardiolipin antibodies (aCL), a...
متن کاملSerum vitamin D level in patients with newly diagnosed pemphigus vulgaris
Background: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a rare autoimmune blistering disease of the skin and mucous membranes. Because vitamin D deficiency is associated with many immune disorders, we compared the levels of vitamin D between PV patients and healthy controls. Methods: Vitamin D level of 20 patients with PV was compared with 20 healthy individuals matched for age, gender, hours spent in the sun, ...
